The Ai Solutions Health & Safety Conference 2014 promises to be a great event. Read on for a synopsis of each of this year's main speakers.
Dave Carr, PgD, MIIRSM, DiPSM, RFaPS
Managing Director

Dave has had a varied career, having started as a Marine Engineering Artificer in the Royal Navy and subsequently working in the topsides and subsea construction and maintenance of North Sea oil and gas installations. During this period Dave performed many roles, including planning engineer, fabrications engineer, construction manager, quality assurance manager and technical author for health and safety management systems.
Dave also worked in the water and manufacturing industries before joining Callsafe in 1996 as a health & safety consultant. Dave became Managing Director in May 2004. Dave obtained a Post-graduate Diploma in Health and Safety Management in 2006, achieved Fellowship of the Association for Project Safety (APS) in 2007 and is a Registered CDM Co-coordinator with the APS. Callsafe Services offer health and safety training and carry out the CDM-C role for many large and complex projects, including works for the Environmental Agency. At the Ai Solutions Health and Safety Conference 2014 as well as providing the update for the HSE, Dave will be asking the question "Will the change from CDM-C to Principal Designer be effective?"
David Wood

David spent 15 years as one of Her Majesties Inspectors of Health and Safety from 1976 to 1991, being one of the first intake of Inspectors to the Health and Safety Executive. He resigned this post to expand the family retail business and at the same time started his own Health and Safety consultancy company.
In 1995 he merged his consultancy with others parties to form Plansafe Solutions Ltd of which he is Managing Director and major shareholder. Plansafe Solutions ' core business is Health and Safety Consultancy but they are also UKAS accredited Asbestos Surveyors, Fire Risk Assessors, CDM Co-ordinators and Legionella Assessors. In the last year they have added Engineer Surveying which undertakes Statutory Examinations of lifting equipment, minor pressure systems, local exhaust ventilation systems and proof load testing under LOLER, PUWER and COSHH. They intend to achieve UKAS accreditation for this division within the next twelve months.
As well as his role of Managing Director, David acts as an Expert Witness in health and safety being instructed in both Civil and Criminal cases, in both Scotland and England. At the Ai Solutions Health and Safety Conference 2014 David will be discussing why you should "Plan ahead. Plan for the event" and the savings you can make.
David Sanders, MCIOB
Business Improvement Manager
Costain
David is the Business Improvement Manager within one of the construction and engineering industry's leading solution providers - Costain. Building upon a 20 year career within construction commercial management, David began his 'second career' in1999 as a change manager within an award winning improvement programme for a national contractor. David currently leads a small team of systems and performance managers working throughout the UK on a series of change programmes. More recently, he has Lead Costain's accreditation to BS11000, and its ongoing roll out throughout all parts of the business and he has also been part of the delivery team for 'The Costain Way', an app style approach for communicating process and guidance to all staff. David has been responsible for leading the businesses adoption of Lean Construction practices and has developed and introduced an EFQM based project performance measurement tool. He has also introduced an 'Avoiding common defects' booklet to help less experienced staff avoid quality problems.
David is recognised within Costain as a skilled facilitator, presenter and performance coach. At the Ai Solutions Health and Safety Conference 2014 David will be telling us about collaborative working partnerships and how Costain have used the BS 11000 standard to build successful and profitable working relationships with their suppliers and other parties.
Chris Earl, MCIOB, MIoD

With over thirty years' experience in the construction industry, Chris has developed a wealth of knowledge and experience in commercial and general management. His experience spans mainstream construction and specialist contracting activities including a comprehensive involvement in rail and asbestos sectors.
More recently Chris has specialised in environmental, focusing on the risks associated with asbestos in the built environment.
A confident, decisive manager and professional, his specialist knowledge and experience in the management of asbestos and legislative requirements along with a proven track record of delivering solutions to time and within budget.
Chris maintains a safety conscious approach to responsibilities and demands care, thoroughness and high standards at all times in his strive for excellence and quality service. At the Ai Solutions Health and Safety Conference 2014 Chris will be telling us about how 'Asbestos Prevention is better than the cure'.
Gary Plant CEng MIMechE MCSD

A Chartered Engineer with over 30 years' experience of supplier management, Gary was the lead architect of both the Link-up and Proof schemes at their inception in the 1990. Link-up was created as British Rail's Supplier Qualification process and went on to be the UK's most successful scheme of its type. Proof became a de-facto standard in the UK Railways following demonstrable improvements in safety and contractor performance.
Gary's career enabled him to play a major role in shaping supply chain processes in Engineering, Quality, Safety and Procurement environments in industries such as Retail, Aerospace, Rail, Utilities, Oil & Gas, Pharmaceutical and Public Sectors in the UK and abroad. Much of the success of the services Gary has delivered have been achieved by designing, developing and implementing sophisticated, user friendly and robust IT systems. Altius won the 2011 'British Institute of Facilities Management Award' for 'Innovation in Systems' for their latest 'In Touch' and 'Gateway' and 'Central' systems. At the Ai Solutions Health and Safety Conference 2014 Gary will be asking 'How much risk are you buying?
