Many of us are turning our attention to planning the Christmas festivities in the realisation that there are only about three weeks to go. The HSE's new Duty to Manage Asbestos comes into effect in about 24 weeks' time. Anecdotal comment suggests that not nearly enough duty holders have any idea of what the Law has in store for them. This is in spite of the HSE's Asbestos Awareness Campaign and the additional efforts of organisations like ourselves. The good news (about the regulations, not Christmas) is that we can help. But time, as they say, waits for no one...
Ai Solutions have now released their latest version of the leading software suite for managing the Asbestos (Control of Asbestos at Work 2002) regulations and CDM (Construction Design & Management 1994) regulations. The software has been extensively modified since it was first released. Customers have demanded control of documentation and the routines that integrate data from large databases into their reports. Presentation, always an issue with professionals, has been enhanced with better tools and more features so that just about any style can be accommodated easily, in any report, and saved in any template for future use. Ease of use has improved with the advent of better Windows technology. Document management is achieved with an audit trail and version control without hassle; users always know where documents are. Library information, standard documents, method statements, risk assessments, letters to anyone in the database, and messaging are all accommodated within the package and with links to e-mail systems and so on. The accent is on the achievement of compliance with simplicity.
Those Asbestos duty holders who are looking for the integration of simple-to-use floor plans linked to asbestos items should look no further. We have them; we have also provided enquiry screens for the customer service desk (for instance) to find out, remotely if necessary, the survey and risk assessment detail of any asbestos items that they have permission to access. Asbestos Risk Assessments come with an automated function for recommendations following the HSG227 Guide. And monitoring tasks can be generated automatically too.
Our CDM duty holders have benefited too. The ability to edit documents and reports has made the product even easier to use in the CDM environment. Improvements in the way documents are displayed have meant that, now, any document can be generated quickly. The 80,000 word CDM knowledge base has been updated. The project management interface has been improved and the ability to manage the competence of any category of supplier has more functionality. There have been several improvements to the way that updates are delivered to large business users so that the process can be achieved with less and less involvement of IT departments.
There has never been a better time to book a demonstration of ToolKit CS™. The product has now been installed for about 15 months with some of our customers and, with the latest update, has 'come of age'. So, with the clock ticking, please take the opportunity to review what has become a leading tool in the health & safety world. Then you can sit back and enjoy that long Christmas break with the confidence that you have found the solution that will help you next year!
HSE have coined an alternative meaning for CDM: Can Do More! It has a certain ring to it? The revised HSE web site includes a host of information about the CDM regulations and explains how ... designers can do more ... to help in the CDM process. I will leave you to have a look and make up your own mind! HSE have updated the asbestos web site as well. See: www.hse.gov.uk/construction and www.hse.gov.uk/asbestos.
To our customers, we would like to add our thanks for your support through using our products or attending our seminars and to making this year what promises to be an outstanding one.
But more of that next month!
