Introduction

It is essential in specifying a particular substance designers should ensure that full information is obtained about its constituent parts to identify any particular precautions that have to be taken in its use or application. Wherever possible a safer alternative should be specified. Where this is not possible full details of the substance and the precautions to be taken in its use should be passed to the Principal Contractor for inclusion in the Construction Phase Plan. By this means the contractor will be advised of any special protective measures he must take.

Under the Chemicals (Hazard Information and Packaging for Supply) Regulations suppliers and manufacturers are obliged to supply full details about their products. Including the hazards and risks associated with their use.
