Who is at Risk

Asbestos Knowledge Base

Anyone who disturbs asbestos that has deteriorated or been damaged and is releasing fibres can be at risk. This includes anyone involved in drilling, sawing, or cutting into the fabric of premises. They are potentially at risk. They and others around them may breathe in asbestos fibres during their day to day work. It is now thought that repeated low exposures such as those occurring during routine repair work , may lead to cancers. Although scientific evidence on causes is unclear, we do know that the more asbestos fibre that is breathed in, the greater the risk to health. This is why it is particularly important to identify ACMs and that everyone who is likely to work with them takes suitable precautions.
