Small Modern Premises

Asbestos Knowledge Base

Many people will want to know how the Law applies to small or modern premises.

In cases where there is no maintenance work planned and/or the premises are small or modern (post 1985 when white / chrysotile asbestos was banned as a building material), it may be appropriate to do your own presumptive survey. If however you are planning refurbishment or maintenance of the premises you may choose to employ a suitably qualified person to carry out a survey to identify ACMs.

By 1999 the new use of any building materials containing white asbestos had been banned. Therefore an assessment of premises constructed after 1999 should be very easy. Unless you have information to the contrary, you would simply have to record the fact that the date of construction indicates there is no asbestos present.
