Request for Permit-to-work
Contractors Knowledge Base
Introduction
Some work is so potentially hazardous that it must be governed by a permit-to-work system. This is a system where access to the work area is restricted to those authorised by responsible persons as being competent. In addition, the work is strictly supervised. Examples of work that would require a permit-to-work would be work in confined spaces, or work on high voltage electrical systems.
It is necessary that all persons on the site are aware of a permit-to-work situation and it is also necessary that site management is in control of the particular circumstances of the work so that the necessary resources and systems can be allocated.
In order to trigger the necessary system a formal request for a permit-to-work must be made to the responsible person.
