Asbestos (Licensing) (Amendment) Regulations 1998

These Regulations came into force on 1st February 1999. The principle changes implemented by these Regulations include:
- asbestos insulation boards are now subject to the provisions of the Regulations
- the notification period of work associated with materials covered by the Regulations is reduced from 28 to 14 days
- the circumstances in which the HSE may revoke a license has been extended
The HSE provide guidance in the form of ACoPs to the above legislation as well as Guidance Notes on various aspects of the health and safety management of asbestos and asbestos products. All are obtainable from HSE Books.
These regulations have been revoked by the Control of Asbestos Regulations (CAR) 2012, with the licensing and notification requirements transferred into the new regulations.
