Introduction

On a busy construction site with several sub-contractors it is imperative that everyone on site are aware of safety issues concerning the work. The principal contractor has the duty to ensure co-ordination of activities and co-operation between the various sub-contractors. Often the best way to achieve this is to gather everyone together in a meeting.

The meeting should be kept as brief as possible and all attendees should arrive prepared to discuss health and safety issues.

It is an important duty placed on all contractors to keep their staff informed of health and safety issues on site and a meeting is one of the best ways of achieving this. The meeting does not need to be formal and can be in the form of a so-called 'toolbox' meeting.
