Existing Buried Structures

Hazard Related Topics

All existing buried structures must be identified within the Health and Safety File.

Where an operation will be carried out within an existing buried structure such as a manhole or a sewer, this must be identified and attention drawn to safety conditions that must be complied with in respect of working in that confined space. Such considerations may include safe access/egress, breathing equipment/ventilation, lighting and safety clothing. It may be necessary to introduce a permit-to-work system and a method statement to control the operation.
