Site Installation Engineer Competence
I have been asked a question by my colleagues in the US. If we are too busy to provide a Site Installation Engineer from our own staff, can we hire a competent person to act on our behalf and still be compliant under CDM regulations. The person appointed would however spend at least two weeks prior to the start of the installation to become familiar with the project. The equipment we manufacture is basically large chambers with multidiscipline services such as Air, power water Hydraulic.
The question above was originally posed via our Ask A Guru feature and this response from 2004 was by either Dave Carr or Michael Stokes.
If the questioner (or his company) has been appointed to oversee site installation, it is assumed that the client making the appointment has satisfied himself over the question of competence and the provision of adequate resources.
If subsequently there is a need to recruit additional resources, then provided those appointed have the necessary competence then such actions will be within the requirements of, and ensure compliance with the CDM regulations.
