November 2025
With the nights now drawing in, we have noticed some of the newer infrastructure projects that are ‘lit up’. Did you know that Ai Solutions is not far from Milton Keynes? This city has always been known for its roundabouts and concrete cows, but there are definitely a lot of new improvements happening with our close neighbour. In fact, Milton Keynes is currently experiencing ‘significant growth’ with various new development projects underway. The most interesting is the planned development to build 65,000 new homes – this would be a growth of 50% (according to MK Citizen). To support all the new housing, the recent M1 approach improvements and associated subsidiary works are almost complete (albeit a little later than expected). So, it looks like Milton Keynes is still an ‘up and coming’ area with excellent links to London, the South and the North.

The advantage that Milton Keynes has, compared to many older cities, is space. Space to build, space to grow, plus areas of greenery and well planned access to the city. Whereas, some of the bigger cities can only go ‘up’ (or under) with their development works. On the subject of ‘going under’ improvements, we note that the ‘Silvertown Tunnel’ in Newham is finally complete and TfL have stated that the use of the new tunnel will help reduce pollution and ease congestion in London. If you are interested, the London Plan details the strategic plan for London going forward and it reflects the London Mayors’ vision for good growth.
Final word; let us all remember, November speaks of darker mornings and longer nights. For those of you that have to work outside during these times, we value your contribution. Make sure you wear your hi-viz so we can all see you while you work!

M6-toll – Winter Gear Up
The M6-toll is gearing up to prepare for winter and to ensure that the motorway remains safe, reliable, and resilient for all drivers that use it. The M6-toll is a key route going past Birmingham and is used by private transportation as well as business transportation, therefore it needs to be ‘fit for purpose’ during the coming winter months. Manchester – HSE Target
Manchester is the home of some of the biggest construction projects in the country. Therefore, by its nature there are a lot of high hazards to consider. The HSE recently sent their inspectors round to carry out inspections. The aim is to see if there were good measures of control in place. If you are interested in this story and want to know more visit British Safety Council News. It will be interesting to see the results of this set of inspections!

Safer Driving at Night
RoSPA is calling on the government to finally publish the National Road Safety Strategy for England. They state that we need to empower local authorities to introduce lower speed limits where they are most needed, and to establish a Road Safety Investigation Branch to learn from serious collisions. They have also suggested safety guidelines to help everyone with ‘Darker Driving’.
HSE - £250,000 Fatality Fine
A haulage company based in Middlesbrough, has been fined £250,000 by HSE for the death of an employee. The HSE stated that the man died due to the company’s failures on a task they had not done before. Two workers had been standing up metal frames (known as a “devanning” activity). There was an accident as one of the men was pinned by the neck between the container wall and the fallen frames. Despite being rushed to hospital after suffering a cardiac arrest, he was sadly pronounced dead three days later.
Demotivated 18-24 Year Olds
We read in Safety Management that younger workers feel they have been cast adrift by their employers in the shift to home and hybrid working. This latest way of working has left many (43%) young workers having issues with business relationships and feel it restricts their personal and professional development.
