Changing Tides?

Changing TideWith the country still in the grip of financial crisis, when will we start to see the tide turning? The government-funded construction pipeline is said to include over 600 projects and programmes, worth around £40bn of investment over four years to 2014/15. This figure excludes rail and other regulated and private sector infrastructure investment. Additionally, we have seen recent changes in building regulations and control. All this, suggests the government, will stimulate the economy and encourage new growth.

Yes, it is true we are seeing more cranes along our skylines however this was more in the south and London area. Some critics state this was to accommodate the Olympics but was that the case? We believe it is a slow beast and that the construction industry will start to improve. Lets face it, it was a pretty hard blow when the banks took the country into this current recession therefore it will take time to recover.

On the positive side we have new initiatives to get the housing market moving as well as funding for major contracts. Yes, construction associated companies have suffered or gone under. With job loses and the early retirement of key staff plus the agonies of restructuring it has been a tough time all round. Nevertheless we believe that these companies will come out the other side all the better for it, slicker, more streamlined and ready for business.
