Six arrested in £4m tax fraud raids
Four men and two women have been arrested following raids by HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) officers investigating a suspected £4m tax fraud.
The raids were part of HMRC's continuing crackdown on construction tax fraud.
The alleged offences include income tax, VAT and corporation tax evasion, construction industry fraud and money laundering.
Officers removed business records and computer evidence during their searches at a residential property in Llandaff, Cardiff; a business property and a residential property in Chepstow, Monmouthshire; a property in Shirenewton, Monmouthshire used for both business and domestic purposes; and two residential properties and one business premises in Northampton...

Rail Deaths Fine
Carillion Construction and Network Rail have been fined £1.1m and ordered to pay £100,000 costs between them, following the deaths of two railway maintenance staff.
David Pennington, 46, from Burnley, and Martin Oakes, 38, from Sheffield were hit by a reversing road rail vehicle (RRV) while laying new track near Hednesford, Staffordshire in the early hours of a night in September 2004.
The two firms were successfully prosecuted by the British Transport Police and Crown Prosecution Service. They were sentenced yesterday at Stafford Crown Court. Three individuals were also convicted of Health and Safety offences.
Network Rail, which was charged with endangering a non-employee, was fined £666,667 and ordered to pay £50,000 costs.
